On April 14, 2026, the first independent grid-forming energy storage power station in Hainan, Wenchang 100 MW/200 MWh grid-forming energy storage project, equipped with AC-side equipment supplied by NR Electric, successfully passed regional-level off-grid black start and 110 kV manual short-circuit testing.
The project successfully passed a full suite of system-level tests, ranging from black start to grid connection and disconnection switching, and finally to manual short-circuit testing. The tests fully validated the comprehensive capabilities of NR Electric’s grid-forming energy storage technology in effectively improving the short-circuit ratio at renewable energy stations at grid connection points, promoting the integration of renewable energy, and enhancing grid stability.

As a global leader in grid-forming technology, NR Electric has pioneered the concept of “creating an ideal synchronous power source based on energy storage” and launched the NR-ISGrid systematic solution, providing critical support for the smooth transition from traditional power systems to new-generation power systems. The full set of grid-connected tests for this project, has validated the reliability and advanced nature of NR Electric’s grid-forming technology, while also providing more reliable safety safeguards for the Hainan power grid, which is frequently affected by disasters such as typhoons and lightning.
