On February 9, 2026, the new energy power system for mining operations at Norin Mining Lamikal Company was successfully commissioned. This system achieves power curtailment without production restrictions in weak grids, uninterrupted supply during outages, and long-term high-quality power delivery in isolated grids.
The project relies on the integrated solution for mining new energy power systems proposed by NR Electric,taking the NR-ISGrid ideal synchronous power source grid-forming technology as the core, and integrating the rapid coordinated control and mining power collaborative optimization dispatch technology, solving the problem of reliable and economical power supply for remote mines.
Project Overview
NR Electric, as a globally leading provider of integrated solutions for new energy power systems, supplied key equipment for this project including 50MW grid-forming MV Skids, integrated source-grid-load-storage coordination control systems, and energy optimization dispatch systems. NR Electric also led the overall planning and design of the project. By establishing an integrated new energy power system, it achieves millisecond-level fault response isolation and precise coordinated control of sources, grids, loads, and storage. This maximizes local consumption of new energy, helping mine to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
To address challenges such as the weak external grid, complex grid structure within the mining area, and frequently changing operational modes, NR Electric utilized its RTDS full-scenario simulation platform to replicate diverse operational conditions in the mining area. This enabled advance functional verification, significantly reducing on-site commissioning time and ensuring the project completed system testing on schedule and achieved smooth commissioning. The successful implementation of this project effectively guarantees continuous, stable 24-hour power supply for the smelting plant. By leveraging green electricity, it generates substantial operational revenue while achieving seamless switching between multiple power sources—including grid power, solar-storage hybrid systems, and diesel generators—in a safe and efficient manner.
