NR takes the lead in creating a draft for an IEC standard

From October 11th to 13th, 2023, the full meeting of the Power Electronic Technologies Subcommittee (SC22F) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was held in Stockholm, Sweden. Representatives from various countries, including China, Sweden, Russia, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, and more, participated in this conference. Mr. Fang Taixun, Vice Chief Engineer of NR R&D, attended the meeting and presented a work report as the convener of Working Group ahG1.

The ahG1 working group was established in 2021, comprising experts from renowned international manufacturers such as Hitachi Energy (formerly ABB Power), GE, Siemens, and others. Its primary responsibility is the drafting of the standard for "PERFORMANCE OF POWER ELECTRONIC REACTIVE POWER SHUNT COMPENSATORS IN HIGH VOLTAGE ALTERNATING CURRENT (HVAC) SYSTEMS." This standard pertains to the performance of parallel power electronic reactive power compensation devices in high-voltage AC systems. Currently, the working group has produced five draft versions of the standard. During this annual meeting, attending experts highly recognized the accomplishments of the working group and agreed to upgrade the status of the ahG1 working group from a provisional group to a permanent one.

The draft standard for "Performance of Power Electronic Reactive Power Shunt Compensators in High Voltage Alternating Current (HVAC) Systems" specifies terminology, scope of application, and equipment performance for parallel power electronic reactive power compensation devices used in high-voltage AC systems. This standardization will promote the application and technical exchange of parallel reactive power compensation technology based on power electronic techniques, providing international and standardized reference benchmarks for users and suppliers.
