Recently, NR Electric successfully completed black start tests for Grid-Forming energy storage equipment in Jingmen, Hubei Province, and Zhaoyuan, Shandong Province. NR-ISGrid's ideal synchronous power source control technology provides an optimal solution for renewable energy dominated electric power systems.
On 13 June 2025, the Gaoqiao and Qingnian 110kV substations in Jingmen, Hubei Province, and the Jindi Photovoltaic Power Station were in a simulated blackout state, resulting in a power outage in seven surrounding transformer districts. Upon receiving the black start command, the Xingang 50MW/100MWh energy storage power station activated instantly, restoring power to the entire area within 30 seconds. Immediately thereafter, the Jindi Photovoltaic Power Station resumed operations synchronously, supplying electricity to the regional grid. Subsequently, power supply to residents within a radius of over ten kilometres and three pump stations in the surrounding areas was fully restored. After all tests were completed, the regional grid seamlessly integrated into the ‘main grid’ and returned to normal operations. This trial marks the first successful implementation of a Grid-Forming energy storage power station initiating the regional grid in Central China.

On 20 June, the Zhaoyuan Energy Storage Power Station in Shandong completed a 100MW Grid-Forming energy storage system black start test with a 220kV line and a photovoltaic power station. With the issuance of a one-button black start command, more than 100 Grid-Forming energy storage converters across the station started up simultaneously, achieving a black start for the 200MVA photovoltaic main transformer on the opposite side of the energy storage station with in one minute.

The two trials covered grid-side and renewable energy base application scenarios. Through advanced technologies such as ‘one-click synchronous black start’ and ‘minute-level rapid start-up,’ fully automatic regional grid restoration was achieved.
