On June 28, 2021, The first batch of units of the Baihetan Hydropower Station on the Jinsha River was successfully completed the 72 hour trial operation and officially put into commercial operation, which is the world's largest hydropower project under construction with the highest single unit capacity.
As the main secondary equipment supplier, NR provides a complete set of key equipment for the project, such as generator transformer unit protection, switchyard protection, information management system and other key equipment, etc.
Baihetan Hydropower Station is the second stage of four giant cascade hydropower stations (namely Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu and Xiangjiaba) in the lower reaches of Jinsha River. It is a major national project of "Power transmission from West to East". The hydropower station plans to install 16 sets of 1 GW water turbine generators with a total installed capacity of 16 GW. After the completion of the project, the annual power generation will reach more than 62 TWh, which will become the second largest hydropower station in the world after the Three Gorges hydropower station. It is of great significance to assist the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta economic belt and promote the realization of the national goal of "Emission peak, Carbon neutrality".
In order to ensure the operation safety of the world's first 1 GW hydropower unit, Baihetan Hydropower Station has put forward stringent technical requirements for relay protection. NR innovatively puts forward such advanced technologies as voltage type terminal breaker open phase protection, branch circulating current harmonic type rotor turn to turn monitoring protection, etc. It solves the technical problems of sensitive detection of open phase fault and on-line monitoring of rotor inter turn short circuit caused by frequent operation of generator end circuit breaker, and reliably ensures the smooth operation of the first batch of units in Baihetan Hydropower Station.
Looking back on the past, NR has provided a complete set of unit protection, booster station protection & information management system and other equipment for Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station (installed capacity: 7.84 GW, the ninth in the world) since 2012. We also provided solutions for Xiluodu Hydropower Station (installed capacity: 13.86 GW, the fourth in the world) in 2013 and Wudongde Hydropower Station (installed capacity: 10.2 GW, the seventh in the world) in 2020. By 2021, Baihetan Hydropower Station will continue to assist the construction and implementation of large-scale hydropower projects in Jinsha River basin with advanced technology, excellent products and professional services.
NR will continue to do a good job in Baihetan Jiangsu ±800 kV transmission project. This project was the first engineering application of hybrid cascaded UHV transmission technology. It integrates the advantages of UHV DC transmission, such as large capacity, long distance, low loss and high reliability, and the advantages of flexible DC transmission, such as flexible control, strong adaptability and voltage dynamic support. It will significantly enhance the security and flexibility of external power in the receiving end of East China power grid.
