Concepts NREC to Drive Turbocharging the Internal Combustion Engine Course on the Road in 2005

Nove mber 23, 2004 — For the first time ever, Concepts NREC will take its Turbocharging the Internal Combustion Engine course on the road in 2005! This is the only course for industrial engineers that provides a comprehensive presentation of the design principles of turbochargers, engine-turbocharger matching, and the performance of turbocharged engine systems. The course will be held on May 10 - 13 in San Diego, CA, and June 14 - 17 in Detroit, MI.

Lectures will cover the characteristics, design, and performance of the principal turbocharger components. Methods of ensuring that the compressor and turbine are correctly matched to the engine are described. Emphasis is given to the utilization of exhaust gas energy by the turbocharger. Advanced turbocharger system concepts such as variable geometry and compounding are described. Special emphasis is placed on the problems confronting the engine industry today, including the need for fuel economy and reductions in exhaust emissions, and how turbocharging influences these demands.

Participants will receive a copy of Fundamentals of Turbocharging by Nicholas C. Baines. This book is the fi rst comprehensive treatment of turbochargers and turbocharging to be made widely available in the last twenty years. It is intended to serve as both an introduction to the turbocharger itself, and to the problems of matching a turbocharger with an internal combustion engine.
